Not the same Little Golden Book from my childhood

I ordered this book for a friend's baby shower as the invitation requested that guests bring their favorite book from their childhood as a gift for the baby. My own "Alice in Wonderland" Little Golden book was my favorite book since I was a first grader so I quickly did a search on Amazon to find it. When I received it I was not that impressed. The cover is not as thick as the older version was and the quality of the book was poor. The color of the illustrations and text in the book is rather dull and worst of all the pages are too big for the cover and they stick out of the side of the book. I'm debating whether I should give this book as a gift because to me it looks cheap. If the quality of the book were what I was used to with Little Golden Books I would say this is a great book because the story and pictures are wonderful, but I am not happy with the quality.

Story reads like captions instead of children's literature.

As a collector and fan of Little Golden Books, I am disappointed by this one. Usually, Little Golden Books retell the story with language suitable for young readers, but qualify as decent children's literature. Alice In Wonderland, however, reads like a series of captions. One sentence per page, no depths of story or character. Not exact quotes, but the writing is like, "Alice saw a white rabbit. She chased him down a hole. He disappeard through a door. Alice ate a cookie that made her grow small."
Not a favorite of my child. We'll watch the movie instead.

Sweet little book

This is really a sweet little book with lots of colorful pictures and easy to read for a first or second grader.
