This is fun book that my 3 year old makes us read to her several times a day because she loves to repeat the words with us. It is really cute and fun for all of us. It also shows how even though you are different from someone you probably have a lot in common.

About the Author

Jenine M. De Marzo, EdD,is an assistant professor in health studies, physical education, and human performance sciences at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. She has taught and coached children from preschool through college age. She has taught health and physical education from K to 12 and has taught preservice undergraduate and graduate health and physical educators. In addition, she has presented the “healthy break” concept to numerous community school districts.

De Marzo is a health and physical educator for the New York City Board of Education and is president of the Higher Education Section for the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, New York. In her leisure time, she enjoys running, playing and coaching soccer, and playing outside with her three children and her husband.

About the Author

Kevin Redmond, MPE, is a physical education teacher at Gonzaga High School in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He served as national chairperson for Paddle Canada’s Technical and Program Development committees and was the second person in Canada to be awarded Master Canoe Instructor as advanced instructor trainer in the disciplines of lakewater canoeing, moving-water canoeing, and canoe tripping.

Redmond, who has taught physical education and outdoor activities for 30 years at the community, K-12, and university levels, was awarded the National Award of Merit for his contribution to canoeing in Canada. He has worked in the camp system as a counselor, aquatics director, program director, and camp director. He also was a lead contributor in physical education curriculum development that introduced mandatory outdoor curriculum components in Newfoundland and Labrador. Redmond is an award-winning photographer and has completed work for various tourism agencies, such as Parks Canada, and adventure gear manufacturers throughout North America. In his spare time, Redmond enjoys photography, skiing, and salmon fishing.

Andrew Foran, PhD, is an associate professor and chair of the teacher education program at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Dr. Foran is a wilderness and remote first aid instructor trainer for the Canadian Red Cross and is certified as a canoe tripping instructor and canoe flatwater instructor by the Canadian Recreational Canoeing Association. He has taught outdoor education leadership modules for Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development and has received numerous grants to develop curriculum related to outdoor pursuits and leadership.

Dr. Foran is a frequent lecturer and workshop presenter, having presented on a variety of outdoor and wilderness topics. He has developed curriculum for outdoor pursuits, leadership, and wilderness and remote first aid and has numerous publications to his credit. In his leisure time, he enjoys canoe tripping, geocaching, and leading backpacking expeditions.

Sean Dwyer is a physical education teacher with Western School District in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He completed a physical education degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland and completed a master’s degree at the University of Alberta. He is a member of the Provincial Curriculum Committee for Physical Education. Sean worked closely with Kevin Redmond, among others, to introduce mandatory outdoor adventure components to the provincial curriculum. He currently runs a successful Outdoor Pursuits Club at his school, where students are involved in caving, hiking, night hiking, orienteering, winter camping, snowshoeing, geocaching, and camping. In 2005, he won the Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award for the Western School District. In his spare time, he enjoys camping, backpacking, and woodworking.

About the Author

Lynda J. Cochran, PhD, CPRP, is an assistant professor of recreation and leisure studies at the State University of New York, College at Brockport. A certified park and recreation professional, Cochran has over 10 years of practical experience as a recreation programmer and manager in both municipal and military settings.

As a researcher, Cochran has focused on the study of the leisure values of the baby boomer cohort and applied philosophy in leisure programming methods. She has made several presentations at the local, state, and national levels on programming for baby boomers.

Cochran is a member of the National Recreation and Park Association; New York State Recreation and Park Association; American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; and the International Council of Active Aging. She is an active Kiwanis member. In 2002, Cochran received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, one of the highest civilian honors awarded by the Department of the United States Navy.

In her free time, Cochran enjoys traveling and the outdoor pursuits of golf, swimming, biking, hiking, camping, and geocaching. She and her husband, Thomas Sperazza, reside in Buffalo, New York.

Anne M. Rothschadl, PhD, is an associate professor of sport management and recreation at Springfield College in Springfield, Masssachusetts. Rothschadl has been researching trends and issues of the baby boomer generation for more than 10 years.

Rothschadl has served on the board of directors of the Leisure and Aging section of the National Recreation and Park Association. She has spoken on trends in leisure programming for baby boomers at state and national conferences, including National Recreation and Park Association, National Council on Aging, American Society on Aging, and Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association. She is also a facilitator of retirement preparation workshops for Myera, a company that provides planning services for those who are approaching retirement or have recently retired.

In her free time, Rothschadl enjoys traveling, cross country skiing, and Cape Breton-style Scottish fiddling. She resides in South Hadley, Massachusetts.

Jodi L. Rudick, MAS, is president of ADvisors Marketing Group in Oceanside, California. Rudick is a leading marketing consultant, working with everyone from nonprofit organizations to Fortune 500 companies. She is dedicated to promoting participation, advocacy, and support for park and recreation organizations. In 1995, she created the Parks and Recreation: The Benefits Are Endless campaign for the National Recreation and Park Association.

Rudick has spoken at more than 250 recreation-related conferences and workshops, including National Recreation and Park Association, and was twice named Speaker of the Year by the Promotional Products Association.

Rudick served on the Oceanside Park and Recreation Commission for six years and currently serves on the City of Carlsbad's Sister Cities Committee. Rudick has also served on the boards of Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Meeting Planners International.

In her free time, Rudick likes to watch movies and spend time with her son. She resides in Carlsbad, California.

I was sorry to have gotten this book because it makes so many sweeping generalizations that it became useless for our purposes of understanding the topic.If you find it for .01, Ok, get it. But this is almost written for an 8th grade reading level.

This is an awesome bible for a young Christian

This is an awesome bible for a young Christian. My only complaint is the verse numbers are mixed in and hard to find for a kid learning to use his own bible.

Example:
1 In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word
was God. 2 He was in the
beginning with God. 3 All
things were made through
Him, and without Him nothing
was made that was made.

My bible and the way I wish this bible was is like this:

If you are a real Christian, then this Bible is for you.. If you are a religious person that loves to go to church to socialize and prove to everyone how mentally smart you are, Then this is not the Bible for you! About the Author

Anne Spalding is an elementary physical education teacher in Boulder, Colorado. She has presented on curriculum and integration of exercise balls in school settings at local, state, regional, and national levels. With coauthor Linda Kelly, she helped the American Heart Association launch Heart Power! in 1997, which integrated exercise balls into fitness concepts. Ms. Spalding is a Colorado State board member, on various curriculum development and assessment teams, and a member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She has received awards for community health education and for innovation in the classroom. In 1999 she was named the Colorado Physical Education Teacher of the Year. In her spare time, she loves biking, hiking, camping, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.

Linda Kelly, EdD, is a retired physical educator who lives in Longmont, Colorado. She coauthored Kids on the Ball with Anne Spalding and has used—and taught the proper use of—exercise balls since 1990. She has taught senior adult ball classes for more than 15 years and has taught ball exercises to elementary students. She was an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado for 6 years. Dr. Kelly has made numerous presentations at district, state, and national physical education conferences. She wrote and received a grant for use of the ball, has published articles on its use, and helped teachers in elementary schools integrate the balls in their classrooms. She has also served as president of the Colorado Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. In her leisure time, she enjoys fitness activities (including using the ball!), reading, mentoring, and spending time with her adult children.

Fitness on the BALL review

I am a long time user of fitness balls and found Anne Spalding and Linda Kelly’s book, Fitness on the BALL, very useful and full of new ideas. The book also reinforced many of the uses I was familiar with. As a mom, teacher, early childhood specialist and grandmother I continue to find these exercises useful. More recently, my daughter was looking for ways to help her infant enjoy “tummy time” (a new infant activity necessitated by the push to have babies sleep on their backs to help prevent SIDS) Having practiced the activities in Fitness on the BALL, I turned to page 39 Part II (Belly on the Ball) and thought, “This could work for babies as well.“ By placing an infant prone on the ball, holding securely with both hands at the babies sides and gently bouncing, the baby can tolerate pressure on the tummy better than simply laying on the floor. If you are seated behind the baby and ball you can also roll the ball back towards you until the baby is almost standing and then forward on to it’s tummy, thereby taking the pressure off the prone position. By rolling back and forth, the baby is better able to tolerate prone. My grandchild became much happier with prone and demonstrated better head control as well and it was more fun for mom as she soothed and talked her baby through the ball “play”. As a family and a teacher we have used the exercise balls for active seating. As a special education teacher the balls were a godsend in my classroom for both focus and sensory work (Part III)

The exercises in this book are easy to follow with simple illustrations. I refer to it often in my daily exercise practice and have shared it with others. It gives me a way to target certain areas or just vary my routine. I use the book as a resource and a reference. I find that I can vary or combine exercises and come up with new ones or ones that fit my personal needs.

What makes this book stand out for me is Part I, explaining benefits, selection, safety, storage and distribution. Chapter 4 explains, proper mechanics, social and emotional challenges and gives the reader a way to assess their ball activities.

I have a 93-year-old mom who recently fell and broke her hip. She is determined to not let this affect her quality of life. After a full hip replacement, she has completed all her rehab and physical therapy and now walks with out aids. Fall prevention is her goal. Time to get out Anne and Linda’s book and the exercise ball

This book should really have been called Fun on the Ball!

I found this book to be extremely helpful for anyone wanting to revitalize their exercise program. There are so many exercises to choose from! And each is illustrated with step-by-step pictures so that you can understand how to do each exercise. It's almost like having an instructor right there with you, telling you what to do.

My personal trainer used to emphasize to me the value of balance and of core strength (in your torso) as the basis for all-around fitness and he had me do a lot of things on the ball in his gym. I got this book to help me accomplish the same thing at home.

I was expecting something pretty basic, but the book has a wide range of exercises for each fitness level. The thing about training on a ball is that you can do it in the privacy of your home, while listening to music or just taking a break from sitting too long at your desk.

My kids used to do stuff on the ball while watching TV!.

The author has thoughtful and funny commentaries as well although, to be frank, I mostly like the book for its range of exercises and clear descriptive illustrations.

About the Author
Professor of Education Arizona State University Dr. David Moore taught high school social students and reading in Arizona public schools before entering college teaching. He currently teaches secondary school teacher preparation courses in adolescent literacy. He co-chaired the International Reading Association's Commission on Adolescent Literacy and is actively involved with several professional associations. His twenty-five year publication record balances research reports, professional articles, book chapters, and books. Noteworthy publications include the International Reading Association position statement on adolescent literacy and the Handbook of the Reading Research chapter on secondary school reading. Recent books include Teaching Adolescents Who Struggle with Reading (2nd ed.) and Principled Practices for Adolescent Literacy.

Dr. Short is a division director at the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) in Washington, D.C. She has worked as a teacher, trainer, researcher, and curriculum/materials developer. Her work at CAL has concentrated on the integration of language learning with content-area instruction. Through several national projects, she has conducted research and provided professional development and technical assistance to local and state education agencies across the United States. She directed the ESL Standards and Assessment Project for TESOL and co-developed the SIOP model for sheltered instruction.

Professor, College of Education Temple University Dr. Michael Smith joined the ranks of college teachers after eleven years of teaching high school English. He has won awards for his teaching at both the high school and college levels. His research focuses on how experienced readers read and talk about texts, as well as what motivates adolescents' reading and writing both in and out of school. He has written eight books and monographs, including "Reading Don't Fix No Chevys": Literacy in the Lives of Young Men, for which he and his co-author received the 2003 David H. Russell Award for Distinguished Research in the Teaching of English. His writing has appeared in such journals as Communication Education, English Journal, Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, Journal of Educational Research, Journal of Literacy Research, and Research in the Teaching of English.

Associate Professor, Literacy Education Northern Illinois University Dr. Alfred Tatum began his career as an eighth-grade teacher, later becoming a reading specialist and discovering the power of texts to reshape the life outcomes of struggling readers. His current research focuses on the literacy development of African American adolescent males, and he provides teacher professional development to urban middle and high schools. He serves on the National Advisory Reading Committee of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and is active in a number of literacy organizations. In addition to his book Teaching Reading to Black Adolescent Males: Closing the Achievement Gap, he has published in journals such as Reading Research Quarterly, Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, Educational Leadership, Journal of College Reading and Learning, and Principal Leadership.

About the Author

Craig Clifford is professor of philosophy and director of the honors programs at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas.

 

Clifford received a PhD in philosophy from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1981. He has an extensive background in teaching ethics and philosophy of sport, both at the undergraduate and graduate level.

 

A frequent guest columnist for several major newspapers, Clifford has frequently written on the subject of sportsmanship and the American sports culture. He is also the author of Learned Ignorance in the Medicine Bow Mountains: A Reflection on Intellectual Prejudice (Rodopi, 2008), The Tenure of Phil Wisdom: Dialogues (University Press of America, 1995), and In the Deep Heart’s Core: Reflections on Life, Letters, and Texas (Texas A&M University Press, 1985).

 

From 1988 to 1992 Clifford coached the men’s and women’s tennis teams at Tarleton State University. He has competed in a number of sports. Taking up the sport of Olympic-style target archery in his mid-40s, he won the state outdoor archery championship in 1997 and finished the 1999 season ranked 26th in the nation.

 

Randolph Feezell is professor of philosophy at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

 

Feezell received a PhD in philosophy from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1977. He is an award-winning teacher at Creighton University; his classroom and research interests include ethics, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of sport. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the Philosophy of Sport.

 

Feezell is the author of Sport, Play, and Ethical Reflection (University of Illinois Press, 2004) and Faith, Freedom, and Value: Introductory Philosophical Dialogues (Westview Press, 1989). He is the coauthor, with Curtis Hancock, of How Should I Live? Philosophical Conversations About Moral Life (Paragon House, 1991). He has also published numerous articles and reviews.

 

Feezell played baseball at the University of Oklahoma. He has coached baseball at virtually all levels, including over 10 years as a college assistant and hitting coach. He has played semiprofessional baseball, AAU basketball, and tournament tennis.

I was shopping for some books with Princesses.

I wasn't sure which book to order and I got four: 1) Dreams Come True Forever, 2) Perfect Princesses 6 books in 1 with over 50 stickers, 3) Princess Ultimate Sticker Collection, and 4) Wishes and Dreams with over 1000 stickers. If you are just shopping for a book with Princesses and do not have idea what they contain, check my detailed review with pictures under the listing of each of the above books, so you can make your decision wisely.

Perfect Princesses 6 books in 1 with over 50 stickers. Do not count on those stickers. That is only one page of small stickers and not of the best quality. Quality is passable. Almost all of the pages are coloring pages, there are maybe about three pages with some puzzles. Pages of this book are unfortunately cheap, grey and thin. Printed in the USA, but looks like printed in China. Book has many pages though.

This coloring book is of the same quality as Dreams Come True Forever, yet its more expensive, so if you want one of those jumbo books with hundreds of pages I recommend getting the other book instead, that is if you really have to. Also, there are many puzzles and crosswords, which Perfect Princesses lacks. If you are searching for a coloring book with princesses and have no idea which one to get, I suggest getting Wishes and Dreams, its a great quality book, with white pages and over 1000 stickers of a nice grade. I additionally think, that in Perfect Princesses the portrayed Snow White looks fat. Other princesses also somehow has less pretty faces than in other books, on some pictures they don't look like themselves.

I bought this book for my mother who is in a nursing home and she and I both were thrilled. This is by far the best ever!

Better than expected

I didn't realize there were stickers in the book when I purchased this, so that was a vey pleasant surprise for my daughter! Nice, thick book that shes already had hours of fun with! Worth the price, and I usually don't spend more than a buck or two on coloring books. The Princesses alone make it worth it though!
