About the Author

Nick Evans, BSc, MD, FRCS (Orth), is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sport injury. He studied medicine at the University of London, England, and trained in orthopedic surgery at the University Hospital of Wales. Evans gained additional skills in arthroscopic surgery at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine and the University of California at Los Angeles.

Evans is a highly regarded authority on strength training, nutrition, and weight training injuries. He is an expert on musculoskeletal anatomy and has written for numerous scientific publications. Evans is the author of the book Men’s Body Sculpting and was a regular columnist for MuscleMag International and Oxygen Women’s Fitness magazines. He is also featured in several instructional DVDs on weight training.

Evans practices and resides in North Yorkshire, England.

Good plans

I bought this book because I was frustrated with the stuff available for women interested in serious lifting. It is not geared towards women but I think both man and woman can use it successfully. My goal is to gain muscle and lose fat or at least not to lose the muscle I already have while losing fat. I think this book can help anyone do that. This book has three programs. You choose one depending on your body type: ectomorph--super skinny hard time gaining weight, endomorph--rounded, high fat--or hybrid. All body types have a recommended ratio of protein, carbs and fat--and a good and exercise program. It helps you figure out how many calories to eat depending on your goal and explains also how to perform all exercises--weight training--as well as how to add cardio interval for those looking to lose fat. I was very pleased with the exercise program and the meal plan as well as his know how. Exercises are a bit run of the mill--you wont find yourself trying to bend yourself into a pretzel while also lifting weights-but they get the job done. Also he only gives one workout plan for each body type but he gives a whole list that tells you which exercises work which muscles and you can after several weeks on this program put another exercise plan together to change things up. It is written in a direct way that I just love. Very easy to implent so you wont spend hours trying to figure out how to do the exercises or how to eat according to his program. It is very accesible. I just lost this book today in the train--DD:--and have to buy it again but its def worth the money.

Page 46- when asked between exercise and nutrition which is more important, the segment emphatically exclaims EXERCISE!!!.

This is a total load of horse jizz. While both are equally important, if we had to suggest one over the other obviously it is nutrition.

Taking an example from the book on page 11 FACT OR FICTION #1 Suggests committing three half hour work out sessions per week to build a muscular body, that would suggest that out of a 168 hour week all boils down to what we do in 1.5 hours and the other 166.5 hours can be used to watch tv, eat gummy bears, and drink beer so long as we do not exceed our DCR of pounds * 10.

That being said "overtraining" is another myth i expected to be debunked. No such thing as overtraining. No other animal on this planet is built like a human. Other animals are stronger or faster, but humans are built for endurance.

This book is an absolute letdown and the publisher, editor and author should revise the information immediately. The most useful section is the exercise finder, but that has been obsoleted by exrx.net.

Solid theory, excelent workouts

This is my 4th body building book and the best so far, if you want a body sculpting book that actually works and at the same time provide you with sound theory focused in the way your body built muscles and burns out fat you should buy this book, this book will show you how to create your own training routine and meal plan, so you can reach your goals and get the best o it.
The writer Nick Evans is an orthopedic surgeon specialize in sport injuries, his training theory is based in the High Intensity Training developed by Mike Mentzer but he takes it to the next level, melting it with scientific foundations and his unique style making the training routines excellent and also the nutritional information is very good and complements the training routines for each one of the specific body types, also the way Nick explains is terrific, so you will totally understand the theory and the exercises, he repeated himself a little bit within the different chapters but in my opinion that's the best way for people to fully absorb the knowledge, all he did was to emphasize the most important concepts so you can understand every single chapter in their own.
When I started to use his routines and meal plans I was a very skinny guy 1.75m tall 129 lbs, now after a few months I'm 146 lbs and still gaining weight (muscular mass), and also my strength has been incremented a lot, I am using Nick Evans routines with a few changes and I'm telling you they really work.
So do yourself a favor and buy the book, read it from the beginning to the end, go to the Gym 45min 3 times a week, eat what you really need and see your body transform in front of your eyes.
