Most critics said the sequel this book is based on was AS good if not better than the original Toy Story...

...and it's a cute Little Golden Book, bringing back most of the characters from the first movie/book with a few new ones. I'd taken my sons to see the original Toy Story when they were 11 and 8, but they were 15 and 12 by the time the 1999 sequel came out and their interests had grown up right along with them, so we didn't see it. Ironically, that's what this movie/book are about... Andy's toys - which come to life when people aren't around - are worried that he'll grow up and forget about them! But that's the great things about toys and books... kids DO grow up, but then THEY have kids, and the "old" toys and books are new again in the eyes of another child to love them! My older grandson had enjoyed the original Toy Story Golden Book, and from what I've read about the movie sequel, this one again does a super job in turning the feature length film into a compact 24 pages, which is the perfect length for a reading over lunch or at bedtime - he enjoyed this one equally well, though he tells me that HE is not going to get too old to play with his toys! (Humorous, because just this past year his interest has declined in all of his old "Thomas the Train" toys, but his younger brother is just discovering them, and now we have another grandchild on the way so... everything "old" is "new" again!) Who knows... if we carefully pack all of the toys and books up that we're accumulating during my babysitting of our grandchildren, they may still have many lives to come with yet another generation!

a good book to explain the movie better to a young child

My son (almost 3 yrs) LOVES toy story. All of them. I actually think they are a little too difficult and scary for him.
And I also think they are way too long for him to watch. So most of times I let him watch the fun parts/chapters and skip the scary parts. Toy Story 1 and 3 are temporarily banned from our devices.
I think Toy Story 2 is less scary, but that's my opinion.
To explain a bit better the story's I bought all of the Golden Book versions of Toy Story. Just so I can explain it better to him and to make it less scary. The books are absolutely less scary and more toddler friendly.
Buzz is his big hero, so he loves to hear story's about him.
It is only 3.59 and I can read it over and over to him. It is also a lightweight and easy to travel with in a backpack or in your suitcase

Toy Story 2 Little Golden Book

My 2.5 year old daughter is just crazy about everything Toy Story. We were able to find the Golden Book versions of Toy Story 1 and 3 in our local stores but for some reason no one carried 2. I was so happy to find it here so we could complete her set. It's a cute version, the illustrations are nice and hits the highlights of the movie. It's a must-have in the library of any Toy Story fan.
