About the Author
Dave Hopla is the assistant coach for player development for the New York Knicks. He is considered by many to be the top shooter in the world, regularly knocking down 495 out of 500 shots. He is the world-record holder for the most free throws in one minute with one ball and one passer, having made 26 shots out of 26 attempts. He also holds the record for the most NBA corner three-point shots having shot 18 of 18 with one ball and one passer in one minute. From the NBA three-point line (23 feet, 9 inches), Hopla made 16 out of 17 attempts with one ball and one passer in one minute. These records can be seen on YouTube.
Hopla has held shooting camps all over the world and regularly travels with the NBA for the NBA Basketball Without Borders program. After he joined the Toronto Raptors in 2006 as their shooting coach, Toronto increased its team shooting percentage every month, from 44.2 in November 2006 to 47.5 in January 2007. They also increased their three-point shooting percentage from 30 in November 2006 to 40 in January 2007. In 2007, Dave was hired by the Washington Wizards as an assistant coach for player development. During the 2007 season the Wizards shot a franchise best from the free-throw line (78.8%). While in Washington, the Wizards shot a franchise best from the free-throw line. Dave has worked with many NBA, college, and high school teams and players, including Carmelo Anthony, Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd, Chris Bosh, Gilbert Arenas, Ben Gordon, Rip Hamilton, Kevin Love, Brandon Jennings, Ray Allen, and Kobe Bryant, as well as several WNBA players, including Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird. Hopla resides in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, with his beautiful wife, Carole, and beautiful daughter, McKenna.

Great resource for players and coaches

I think the DVD and book together complement each other well. Either one by itself wouldn't be enough. It would be a great resource for coaches of middle grade kids. Lots of good ideas for practices are included in the DVD and outlined in more detail in the book. My son believes he will use it on his own during basketball season. It's a good book to own because you can keep coming back to it for new ideas.

You'll never find a better shooting coach!!

I had a chance to meet the author at a local camp. There are not enough words to explain how amazing this guy is! Any player would benefit from the instruction that he provides. The best part of this book is that he takes every shot in the game and breaks down every fundamental skill that is involved with the shot. You may feel like you are reading something that you already know. But just because you know it doesn't mean that you can master it. The DVD is an added bonus. I love that you can read a certain section, study the pictures, but then go to the DVD to see the skill being performed live. If you are ever able to see Mr. Hopla shoot in person, go and watch. Trust me...you will be amazed!!

This an excellent book with DVD instruction. Simple techniques to learn shot basics. Basics that every shooter should know to be successful. Well made DVD and great coaching advise. Recommend for anyone new to the great sport of basketball and anyone involved with coaching.
