Here's what you need to know

Here's the thing about this book. It's pretty much some images from the movie, with a very shortened version of the story. I think of it like a souvenir of watching the movie, without adding anything at all. It doesn't even read well if you haven't seen the movie. Not really a book in and of itself. THREE STARS FOR THE BOOK.
BUT, here's the thing. My 3 y.o. daughter LOVES it. She sleeps with it. She carries it with her wherever she goes. She sits and looks at it quietly for tens of minutes on car rides, totally engaged. So whatever magic the book has, I cannot deny. It was pretty cheap and she's gotten hours of enjoyment from it. FIVE STARS FOR MY DAUGHTER'S REACTION TO IT.
So, I'll give it FOUR, despite my general lack of passion for the book.

Questionable Narrative

This isn't like most of the other Little Golden Disney books we have. Those seems to glaze over violent scenes and themes of death from the movie, which make them good for my preschooler. This one has several scenes I find questionable and scary for my child. I'm really disappointed in Little Golden books for this one. For example, this book actually uses the phrase "plunged the knife into Beast's back." That's too extreme for a child's book, in my opinion. We also have the Cinderella, Frozen, and Tangled Little Golden books. Those are all much milder and more appropriate. Not sure what happened with this one.

a forever favorite

Little Golden Books are a forever classic and Beauty and the Beast is no exception. The illustrations are straight from the Disney film, so little ones can easily make the connection between book and screen. It is still part of the experience to write one's name on the name plate inside the front cover, a Little Golden Book feature that, like the many of their titles, remains a classic part of the reading experience.
