Most endurance books are written by prominent coaches within endurance sports. This, however, is written by CSCS and similar conditioning professionals who lift their endurance terminology from more significant and original coaches.

Because of their differing origin, the programs proposed are, well, different from that seen in standard endurance texts. That is the main value of this book. Too many endurance books go from the standard approaches and do more to confirm than challenge.

Other quality aspects of the book are the run-downs of physiological factors affecting endurance performance and the integration of strength training with endurance training. Strength training is left out of many of the endurance books, or given a simple "3 x 10" treatment. There is much more to the integration than that, and I'm happy this book addresses the topic in a decent fashion.

Though this will hardly go down as a seminal text in the history of endurance writings, it does more to challenge than most other books on the subject.
